Tallahassee Daddy Daughter Dance Background
This event originated in 2006 as a fund raiser to fund community projects developed and/or supported by the Northside Rotary Club. The funds raised go primarily to wonderful projects locally and worldwide like the Rotary Youth Camp for Disabled Children, the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, the infant car seat donations through the Leon County Health Department, international project to supply needed equipment and surgical expertise to children's hospital/orphanage in Ukraine, and Packages to Troops stationed overseas. The Dance, unlike some private church and organization dances, is open to the entire community as well as surrounding communities.
Our dance is patterned after the Father Daughter Valentine's Dance held in Valdosta, Georgia. The Valdosta dance began in 1995 with a small group in a church hall and has grown to a dance with attendance of over 6,000 people! They are so huge that they now hold the dance in their civic center and have broken it down into 4 dances over two days!
We are growing each year and our goal is to be big enough for the Civic Center! We have grown from 150 people at the Elk's Club in 2006 to over 900 people at the MOON in 2010! We want everyone that lives in the Panhandle to be as excited about and aware of this dance as the citizens are of ‘Market Days’, ‘The Festival of Lights’, or ‘Springtime Tallahassee Parade & Jubilee in the Park’! A lofty goal to be sure, but one that is certainly attainable.
The Dance is open to the entire community as well as surrounding communities.
